Like Community Harvest, many non-profit organizations in Stark County have a powerful message.  However, the real measure of any message is in the actual delivery of the product or service to those in need.  At Community Harvest we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary as “the simple and common sense way” to help others.

Our delivery is simple.  Each day, thousands of pounds of prepared food are discarded.  This happens for a number of reasons – Area restaurants often prepare food ahead that cannot be served by the end of the day.  Grocery stores and bakeries have prepared food that exceeds the shelf life.  Food festivals, caterers, and banquet halls prepare delicious meals and regularly have food left over.  Fortunately, Community Harvest is able to rescue that food through the generosity of volunteers and a specially equipped refrigerated truck.  This food is collected on daily routes and then distributed to hot meal sites, churches and organizations who prepare food for the hungry on a regular basis.

So, in short, we use a “common sense”  approach of bringing two resources together by rescuing fresh, healthy, prepared food and delivering it to the people and places serving the meals.  There is no cost for the food, because it is all donated by area restaurants and food providers.

Please help us reach our goal of delivering over 1 Million meals in 2015.
